Leviathan by telophase Leviathan by telophase
And the last dragon for that RPG book. This one's Leviathan, which was described to me as looking like a sea snake with a dragon's head.

Sort of a tossup as to whether to call it digital or traditional. The leviathan itself was drawn and stippled in pen and ink, but the sea is all digital screentone. Probably about 50-50, I guess.

quite similar to a drawing of my own... the same theme, an enormous sea beast...
i draw it archng through the clouds amidst a storm, then piling into the ocan and curling through the waves...
a should find it and finish it :)

THis one came about because I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do. I did another version that, not to put *too* fine a point on it, sucked rocks. And then I spent some time paging through the digital tone textures I have and found that one. I still want more movement in the leviathan, but I was ona deadline and couldn't waste any more time to redraw, so I went with that.

I envy your talent for stippling..it's just amazing on the dragon. You blended the two mediums well together and the dragon is just gorgeous... That RPg company is lucky to have you^^

Incredibly lovely shading and composition! The detail work on the scales and such is absoultely marvelous. Incredibily dynamic piece. Major kudos. I don't know how you got the patience for stippling, but can i borrow it sometime? *L*

My deep dark secret is digital screentones. :) I only stippled the dragon itself, and the sea is from an image file on a CD by Antarctic Press, which they sell for exactly this sort of thing.

Thanks! :D

I like that you see his head only by half very much.
It adds movement, you can see that it is in the progress of disappearing into the sea.

No problem!
Itīs my honest opinion. Why does one always have to show everything? Sometimes hiding things or leaving something out can be more interesting and different from what everybody else does.

You know I kind of don't like how its head is like... almost in the water, but not... its not quite dynamic enough for me, I probably would have had it raising its head upwards all with water everywhere and what not, but then again, I probably would have KILLED myself trying to do that XPI still like it, I wish I could see more of its face though... Nice work with the dots, I don't think I could do that, I would need a whole lot of patience, that's for sure.

No patience necessary -- those dots are a digital screentone pattern from a CD published by Antarctic Press for exactly this sort of work. :)

I *really* wanted to do the dragon in speedlines -- in other words, draw using short horizontal lines to make it look like it was moving, but I couldn't figure out even how to begin that, and it was due today, so I said the hell with it. Oh well.

And why on earth is DA showing comments to me on my messages page but not on the deviation page? Annoying.

wow now that is nice *O*
too bad that you didn't show all of its face.
i think that the black and white gives it a peaceful effect! :aww:

heehee. thanks :) I wnated to show it diving back down into the sea -- if I was better at drawing splashing water, I'd have put some spray by its muzzle. As it is, I just let the digital tone be the sea and the sky and the mist.
