Description
Done for the winner of the 2222 kiriban, . She gave me a list of three possibles to choose from, including a bloody Hakkai from Saiyuki, a Kakashi as ANBU from Naruto, and a Misao from Rurouni Kenshin "in an awesome ninja pose."
Did I achieve awesome? I even threw in a background this time!
It took me a while to figure out which one to do, because they were all cool ideas, but I rememberd some guy at a con I was at who looked at me drawing away on my bishounen (I believe it was Gojyo from Saiyuki), who asked me if I could draw women. I said "Sure!" He asked if I had any there. I said no. He said, in a condescending tone, "So I guess you can't, then," and wandered off. I figured I might as well broaden my customer base and draw some chicks, too, so Misao won. Plus it didn't hurt that I could do a figure drawing soaked in perspective because I love to do those.
Title from ~Kugen's translation of a list of topics to draw, as per usual. The list is really skewed towards dreamy, introspective topics, so I have to work hard to justify these action drawings, but I think this counts if you think of it in an ironic sense.
Sketched my usual way -- offline, then scanned and changed to a color, printed, refined in pencil, scanned in again and adjusted to drop the color and the original lines out, change color, rinse, repeat. Colored in Painter 7.0 with the Dry Media->Oil Pastel and the Liquid->Just Add Water tools, then imported into Photoshop to do the glows and glints. I also did the background in Photoshop because I can do gradients and controlled blurs better there, and when I decided to put the clouds in later on, I was already in Photoshop and didn't want to get back out and boot Painter up again.
The clouds were amazingly easy -- soft pale desaturated blue lightly scribbled in, then got a smaller, sharper brush and scribbled some more to get the highlights on the clouds, then went through with a *really* light opacity brush loaded with a dark, dark yellow-tinted grey to put the shadows into the clouds.
Good night.
Sleep tight.
Don't let the ninjas bite.
