Here's the inks for the first 2345 kiriban. Sketched on paper, then digitally inked. I think I've finally found a combination of tools and layer blending effects that produce lines I like - Painter 7.0, Digital Airbrush very small, with the layer set to Gel.

More about the picture itself on the color version -- which will be uploaded into my gallery next. Title from ~Kugen 's translated list o'topics to draw, as always.

I note that DA just added a 'Scraps' section for unfinished stuff, but I consider finished inks to be a finished work of art, so I'm putting them here. My screenshots of teh work-in-progress, and the unrefined sketched would go into Scraps, IMHO.

If anyone wants to color these inks themselves, go ahead. Just credit me when you upload them. :D

That one was digital inks, freehand with a tablet, in Painter. I never got the hang of the pen tool. :)

I've been using Manga Studio for two years now. :) If you look through my gallery you can see some examples.

Painter is perfectly fine for lineart. What I ink with depends partly on whim and partly what I want the final effect to be. I inked this guy in Painter using the Scratchboard tool because I wanted to practice inking really fine lines.

Manga Studio is good when you want a really smooth finish without a whole lot of ... what's the word I'm looking for? ... scratchy individualism, for want of a better term. It does round, smooth curves excellently, but if you're trying to achieve something expressive with angles and corners and scratchiness, like Hiroaki Samura or Yu Yagami, it's not as good, and Painter's Scratchboard or Pencil tools or Photoshop's Pencil tool is better.
