Breezy Day by telophase
Breezy Day
Created for the 2014 Parallels Fanworks Exchange. Akari from the manga/anime Aria.

This was supposed to be uploaded before the reveal as a treat, because I agree that there's not enough Aria out there, but I didn't get it done until a few hours after. So enjoy!

Created by bodging together a number of photos from a stock art site I belong to plus Flickr's Creative Commons to create Akari's figure, then tracing it on a lightboard and changing the hair and clothing to somewhat resemble Akari. It was originally going to be a much more realistic painting, which is why her face is much less manga-y than the original, but I couldn't get the coloring on her hair and clothing right and junked it all for cel shading in a fit of rage. Scanned in, linework then done in Manga Studio, and coloring/shading done in Photoshop.

Credit also goes to edonohana for allowing me to use one of her photos of Venice as ref for the background, and if I hadn't been so frustrated by the whole thing, I'd have done a better job with it. :)

Hiromasa Gets It? by telophase
Hiromasa Gets It?
Done for the 2014 Parallels Fanworks Exchange, where I matched with Lady_Ganesh on the movie Onmyouji.

This was the first time I've attempted to emulate in some vague way the style of the Taiwanese art duo Pin Fen (Pin Fan and Chen Shu Fen). I didn't really nail it, but at least I had fun trying. :)

To do this, I took a bunch of screenshots of Onmyouji and Onmyouji II, then bodged three of them together in Photoshop (Hiromasa, Seimei, Seimei's hand). I traced the outlines on a lightbox, then scanned them and did most of the painting in Painter (which I hadn't touched in over 2 years, so it took a long time to get back up to speed!). Patterns laid in using Photoshop, and they came from www.canstockphoto.com/.

I'd never noticed until I had to paint Seimei that they'd styled Mansai Nomura's wig slightly over his ears to suggest that they were pointed!
